Privacy Policy

Easeful is a menstrual cycle tracking app for iPhone. This policy explains what information the app handles, where that information lives, and what happens to it. It applies to the Easeful iPhone app and to this website.

Who is responsible

Easeful is published by the developer identified on the app's App Store listing ("we", "us"). Because the app stores your information on your own device rather than on our systems, you remain in control of that information at all times. Where privacy law describes a "controller" or "business", we act in that role only for the limited information described below — and in practice, that means almost nothing reaches us.

Information Easeful handles

Information you enter

Easeful stores the information you choose to log:

• Period start and end dates and flow intensity
• Symptoms and their severity
• Mood and energy levels
• Sleep quality
• Free-text notes you write
• Meals you log, including nutrition estimates
• Hormone lab values you scan or enter
• Your profile and preferences: typical cycle length, typical period length, goals, notification settings, and appearance settings

Information Easeful derives

From your logs, the app calculates predictions (next period, ovulation estimate, fertile window, current cycle phase), trend summaries, streaks, and coaching text. These are stored on your device alongside your logs.

Information read from Apple Health

Only if you grant permission — see Apple Health below.

Information we receive

None from the app. Easeful sends no usage data, no crash reports, no device identifiers, and no health information to us or to any third party. If you email us for support, we receive whatever you put in that email; see Contact.

Where your information is stored

Your logs are stored in a SwiftData database inside the app's private container on your iPhone, protected by iOS file-level encryption and your device passcode, Face ID, or Touch ID. A small amount of non-sensitive state (such as your logged meals for the day and your preference toggles) is stored in the app's private preferences store on the same device.

Two optional features, both disabled by default, involve Apple's iCloud under your own Apple Account rather than any system we run: iCloud sync and partner sharing.

If you back up your iPhone to iCloud or to a computer, Easeful's data is included in that backup, under Apple's terms and your own backup settings.

What Easeful does not do

• No accounts. There is nothing to sign up for and no password to create. The app does not ask for your name, email address, or phone number.
• No Easeful servers. We do not operate a backend that receives your data. The app makes no network requests to any service we control.
• No analytics or tracking. The app bundles no analytics SDK, no advertising SDK, no attribution SDK, and no third-party trackers of any kind. In fact, the app ships with no third-party software dependencies at all.
• No advertising. Easeful shows no ads and does not build advertising profiles. Your data is never used for advertising, and never for advertising by anyone else.
• No selling or sharing. We do not sell your personal information and do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, as those terms are used in United States state privacy laws.
• No push notifications from us. Reminders are scheduled locally by the app on your device. Nothing is delivered through a server.

On-device AI coaching

Easeful's coaching runs entirely on your iPhone.

• On devices that support Apple Intelligence, Easeful uses Apple's on-device Foundation Models to generate coaching text and to answer questions about your own logs.
• On every other device, and whenever the on-device model is unavailable, Easeful uses a deterministic rules engine built into the app. You still get guidance; it is written from rules rather than generated.

In neither case are your logs, notes, or health data sent to a remote AI service. Easeful integrates no cloud AI provider — no OpenAI, no Google, no Anthropic, no self-hosted inference endpoint. The model runs where your data already is.

Apple Health (HealthKit)

Apple Health integration is optional and requires your explicit permission, granted per data type in Apple's own permission screen. You can review or revoke it at any time in the iOS Health app under Sharing → Apps.

What Easeful reads

With your permission, Easeful may read: sleep analysis, heart rate variability (SDNN), resting heart rate, active energy burned, step count, body temperature, wrist temperature recorded while sleeping, menstrual flow, ovulation test results, and cervical mucus quality. This is used to inform the insights and coaching shown inside the app.

What Easeful writes

With your permission, Easeful may write back to Apple Health: menstrual flow, ovulation test results, cervical mucus quality, sexual activity, and — on iOS 18 and later — State of Mind entries reflecting the mood you logged. Writing happens as a result of what you log in the app; Easeful writes nothing you did not record. When it updates a day's entry, it replaces only samples Easeful itself wrote.

How Health data is treated

• Health data read from Apple Health is used only to display insights and generate coaching inside the app.
• Health data is never used for advertising, marketing, or any use-based data mining other than improving your own experience inside the app.
• Health data is never sold, and never disclosed to a third party for their own purposes.
• Health data is not transmitted to us, because we operate no servers to receive it.
• If you enable iCloud sync or partner sharing, the rules in those sections apply.

This treatment follows Apple's HealthKit requirements for App Store apps.

Other device permissions

Each permission below is optional, requested only when you first use the feature that needs it, and revocable in iOS Settings.

Camera

Used for meal scanning and lab report scanning. Photos are analyzed on your device using Apple's Vision framework — meal photos are classified against a nutrition database bundled inside the app, and lab report photos are read with on-device text recognition. The app does not upload these photos and does not keep them; only the result you choose to save (for example, the recognized meal and its nutrition estimate, or the extracted hormone values) is stored on your device. Meal scanning requires a physical iPhone.

Microphone and speech recognition

Used for voice logging. Audio is captured while you are dictating and converted to text using Apple's Speech framework. Depending on your device, language, and iOS settings, Apple may perform that conversion on your device or on Apple's servers — this is Apple's system service, governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. Easeful does not store your recordings and does not transmit audio anywhere itself; it uses only the resulting text to fill in a log entry. If you prefer that no audio leaves your device under any circumstances, do not grant microphone or speech recognition access and log by tapping instead.

Calendar

Used to show your events alongside your cycle and suggest cycle-aware timing. Calendar events are read on your device and are not uploaded. If you accept a suggested time, Easeful moves that existing event in your calendar — it makes no calendar changes otherwise.

Notifications

Used for reminders and phase insights. All notifications are scheduled locally on your device. Easeful uses no push notification service and holds no device token.

Partner sharing

Partner sharing is off unless you set it up. When you do, it works through Apple's CloudKit sharing under your own Apple Account — not through any Easeful system.

• You choose what is shared, field by field. Separate switches control your cycle phase, a mood band, an energy band, a symptoms summary, and supportive tips. By default, the symptoms summary is not shared.
• You choose how far back. A history window setting limits how many recent days a partner can see.
• Summaries only. What is published is a derived summary — a phase, coarse bands, and short text. Your raw daily logs and your notes are not shared.
• Narrowing applies immediately. If you switch a field off, the shared summary is rebuilt under the narrower settings.
• You can stop at any time. Ending the share revokes your partner's access.

Because the share travels through iCloud, Apple's terms and privacy policy apply to it in transit and at rest.

Optional iCloud sync

iCloud sync is off by default. If you turn it on in Settings, your Easeful database syncs between your own devices through the private database of your iCloud account. It is stored in Apple's infrastructure under your Apple Account, subject to Apple's privacy policy and to any Advanced Data Protection setting you have enabled. We have no access to it, no credentials for it, and no ability to read it. Turning the setting off stops further syncing; data already in your iCloud account can be managed through iOS Settings → your name → iCloud.

Purchases and subscriptions

Any purchases or subscriptions are processed by Apple through the App Store. Apple handles payment and billing; Easeful never sees your payment card, billing address, or Apple Account credentials. The app checks your entitlement through Apple's StoreKit on your device. Apple's handling of purchase information is governed by Apple's privacy policy.

Legal basis and your rights

Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, the information you enter is processed on your device for the purpose of providing the app's functionality, on the basis of your consent (for special-category health data) and the performance of our agreement with you. Because that processing happens locally and we hold no copy, the practical exercise of your rights happens on your device:

• Access and portability — export your data as CSV or a JSON backup from Settings → Export Data, or generate a PDF report.
• Rectification — edit or delete any log entry directly in the app.
• Erasure — see Retention and deleting your data.
• Withdrawal of consent — revoke Health, camera, microphone, calendar, or notification permission in iOS Settings, and switch off iCloud sync or partner sharing in the app.

Residents of California and other United States states with comprehensive privacy laws have rights to know, delete, correct, and opt out of sale or sharing. Easeful does not sell or share personal information, and we hold no personal information about you to disclose or delete — the data is on your device, under your control. If you believe you have a request we can act on, contact us; we may be unable to identify you, since we hold no account records.

Retention and deleting your data

Easeful keeps your data on your device for as long as you keep the app. There is no server-side retention period because there is no server-side copy.

• Delete everything: open Settings in the app and tap Delete All Data. This erases Easeful's data on the device and returns the app to onboarding.
• Delete individual entries: edit or remove any day's log in the app.
• Delete the app: removing Easeful from your iPhone removes its local database with it.
• iCloud copies: if you enabled iCloud sync, also manage or delete the app's iCloud data through iOS Settings → your name → iCloud, and delete any device backups you no longer want.
• Apple Health: data Easeful wrote to Health remains in Health until you delete it there. Open the Health app to review or remove it.
• Partner shares: end an active share in the app to revoke your partner's access.

Children's privacy

Easeful is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Because the app requires no account and transmits nothing to us, we do not collect information from any user, of any age, on our systems. If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child has used the app in a way that concerns you, the data is on the device and can be erased with Settings → Delete All Data or by deleting the app. Where local law sets a higher age of digital consent, that age applies instead of 13.

Security

Easeful relies on the security of iOS: app data is stored in the app's private container and protected by iOS file encryption tied to your device passcode, Face ID, or Touch ID. Keeping your device passcode set and your iOS version current is the most effective protection for your data. Because Easeful holds no server-side copy of your information, there is no central database that could be breached — but equally, we cannot recover your data if you lose your device without a backup or iCloud sync. Export a backup periodically if that matters to you. No method of storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app changes or as legal requirements evolve. The current version always lives at this page, with the "Last updated" date at the top reflecting the most recent revision. Material changes — for example, if a future version introduced any transmission of your data off your device — will be described here and highlighted in the app before the change takes effect. Continuing to use Easeful after an update means you accept the revised policy. Previous versions are available on request.
